What can you say about mold allergies.
For one thing, mold allergies affect people of all ages.
There are thousands of mold out there, but not all of them cause allergic reactions. Mold spores are tiny and usually can be airborne, which makes it possible for mold spores to travel anywhere air can go. It is generally thought that there are only about a dozen types of mold that cause most allergies. However, mold will only grow where there is available moisture.

When people talk about having mold allergies, generally what they are actually allergic to is not the mold itself but a byproduct of mold called mycotoxins.

The most common symptoms are watery eyes, wheezing, stuffed up nose, shortness of breath and asthma. If some of these symptoms sound familiar, don't be surprised. Some people who believe they only have seasonal allergies like hayfever turn out to have mycotoxin sensitivity instead.

Severe allergy may require hospitalization. A Stachybotrys allergy has been known to cause bleeding in the lungs of infants in combination with second hand smoke exposure. The Stachybotrys atra mold can cause disorders of the nervous system, such as the inability to concentrate, changes in personality and sleep disorders. Stachybortrys mold grows in watersoaked areas that are not completely dried out, such as flood damage. This is the common cause of mold allergies in homes that have experienced flooding. Check basements, closets, shower stalls in bathrooms, fresh food stored in cupboards and the refrigerator, foam pillows, garbage containers and house plants.
