Several Classrooms at Providence High School Closed due to Mold Issue

Central High School in Providence, Rhode Island, has closed 19 classrooms due to mold infestation.

Authorities said the classrooms on the second and third floor of the East Wing were affected by mold due to damage to the exterior wall.

A letter issued by the school district said, “The city has also hired an environmental company to conduct certified cleanings of the classrooms that require any mold remediation… The repairs have been timed over vacation to minimize disruption to students and teachers. Please note that any water-damaged rooms will not house classes until necessary interior repairs have been completed and rooms are cleared by contracted experts.”

Parents Concerned after Mold was Discovered at Eisenhower High School, WA

Parents have expressed concerns after mold was discovered in a classroom at Eisenhower High School, Yakima, Washington.

According to Beth Rothamel, a parent of a freshman, “It’s very irritating to know that my son’s health has been in danger, they don’t know what kind of mold it is it could be toxic mold and they’re letting the kids breathe it and they’re not informing parents that’s what irritates me the most about the whole thing.”

However, the Yakima School District website says that the classroom showing high levels of mold has been cleaned and is safe for occupancy.

Rapid City School Closes for One Week due to Mold Issue

Black Hawk Elementary school in Rapid City, South Dakota, has been closed after mold was found in an interior wall.

The school authorities said lab testing is being done to assess the extent of mold infestation. The results are expected on Wednesday.

School district spokeswoman Katy Urban said an alternate place will be arranged for the 410 students if the problem takes more than a week to resolve.

Hillsborough Township School District Spends $342,000 for Mold Removal

Hillsborough Township School District, New Jersey, has spent $342,000 to clean up mold at Hillsborough High School.

The mold was discovered in 11 rooms, including the video-conference room, auditorium, 2 teacher work rooms, and 7 classrooms.

According to high school Principal Karen Bingert, 8 out of the 11 rooms have been cleaned and opened while the work is underway in the other rooms.

Vigo County School Board Approves Emergency Budget for Mold Remediation

The Vigo County School Board has approved funding to combat mold at West Vigo High School, West Terre Haute, Indiana.

The complete mold remediation at the school is expected to cost $383,964.

On September 19th, the School Board approved an emergency declaration to provide $200,000 out of a capital projects line item for emergency expenditures.

The remainder cost will be met from capital projects budget of the approved budget for this year.

Harper Creek Community Schools Closed due to Mold

Harper Creek Community Schools in Battle Creek, Michigan, have been closed after mold was found in three of the middle school classrooms.

Calhoun County officials confirmed that mold was found on the carpet in three classrooms. The carpets were cleaned and sanitized after samples of mold spores were sent to laboratory for testing.

The school district has hired certified technicians to thoroughly clean the classrooms. In the meantime, all schools will remain closed.

Klamath-Trinity School District Closes Schools Due to Mold Issues


The schools in Eastern Humboldt County’s Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District have been closed due to mold issues.

The Superintendent of Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District Jon Ray said in a statement, “Effective today, we are required to take immediate health and safety measures involving remediation due to mold. These health and safety measures also include immediately evacuation and closure of several classrooms, cafeterias and kitchens that will affect all campuses.”

The schools that have been closed include:

1. Hoopa Valley Elementary School
2. Hoopa Valley High School
3. Trinity Valley Elementary School
4. Two Rivers – Rivers Edge Community Day School
5. Weitchpec Yurok Magnet/Elementary School
6. Jack Norton Elementary School
7. Orleans Elementary School
8. Captain John Continuation High School

The schools re-open on Monday, February 22.

Start of School Year in Hesperia Delayed Due to Mold Infestation

The start of Hesperia Community’s school year has been delayed due to mold infestation in some classrooms of Patricia St. Clair Elementary School in Hesperia, Michigan.

Authorities said the mold was detected on the carpets in elementary school during a routine walk-through on September 7th. However, since the K-12th students share the same ventilation system, classes were put off for all students.

The schools are expected to re-open on September 10th.

Mold Detected in Fayette County Elementary School


Fayette County school district officials have detected mold in Huddleston Elementary School, Peachtree City, Georgia.

Principal Heidi Pfannenstiel said the Fayette County school district has cleaned the mold-infested classrooms and confirmed that it was not black mold.

In a letter addressed to the parents, she wrote, “There are some individuals with a higher sensitivity to molds in the environment; however, the air quality reports are well within an acceptable range, as reported by the industrial hygienist.”

Third-Grade Wing of Oakdale Elementary School Closed due to Mold Infestation


Third-grade wing of Oakdale Elementary School building in Cincinnati, Ohio, was temporarily closed on August 12 due to mold outbreak.

The wing was shut down after mold was discovered on books and clipboards in a classroom.

The students have been temporarily shifted to other classrooms while the crews are working to clean up the wing.
