Mold, Moisture Damage Can Enhance Risk of Asthma in Children

According to researchers at Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare, exposure to mold or moisture damage can increase the likelihood of asthma in children.

The findings were published in the journal Pediatrics on February 16.

According to lead researcher Anne Karvonen, “The most significant finding was that moisture damage with or without mold in the rooms where children are expected to spend most of their time is associated with increased asthma risk, and it appears to be permanent.”

The research further concluded that children were most susceptible during their first two years or if they already suffer from allergies.
