City management of Bartow, Florida, held an auction to sell the mold-infested, former solid waste department’s building on May 19, however, nobody showed up.
The building, located at 2060 State Road 60 E, was abandoned more than a year ago after its wall and carpet became infested with mold. The city’s Solid Waste Department was temporarily relocated to another nearby building.
According to auctioneer John Martz, “I’ve never, ever held an auction where nobody came… There’s usually always somebody who will buy what you’re selling.”
City Manager George Long said, “I expect that building is going to be demolished and salvaged, to the extent that it can be… Whether that will be done by the city or somebody acting on our behalf, I don’t know.”
