$1 Million To Fix Mold

El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility has mold. Mold in the HVAC supply and return units, mold in the duct work.

The cost of moved prisoners is $35,000 per day–that’s $70 per day per inmate. The fourteen days it will take to clean up the mold is going to cost the county $490,000.

After white, green and black mold was found on all 11 floors of the jail, inmates were moved out.

Old evaporative coolers that were replaced seven to eight years ago might be the cause of the mold.
